The KVAB is the Academy of Flanders, a learned society founded in 1772. Entering the societal debate on scientific and artistic topics in a neutral and interdisciplinary way is the main task of the Academy.
This is done by:
- Coopting commendable researchers, artists and captains of industry in the four Classes and award several prizes.
- Giving perspective to the societal debate with the Thinker’s programme and theViewpoints.
- Enabling international networking for Flemish researchers
- Other initiatives are the Contact forums, VLAC, and the National Biographical Dictionary.
